making our way over→　通常の分詞構文です。「〜すると」と訳せます。

round which rose a circle of gigantic barren mountains of purple hue→　前置詞＋関係代名詞です。先行詞は Loch Coruisk です。この部分は倒置になっているので、普通の語順ではこうなります→　a circle of gigantic barren mountains of purple hue rose round which（= Loch Coruisk）
