課題文の和訳

庭や芝生には多額の費用がかかる。なぜなら土壌が「腹を空かせた」砂地だからだ。いくら肥料や水をやっても、花々はいくらか惨めで弱々しい状態になるし、芝生は草とコケが半々に入り混じった様子の、貧弱でやせ細った外見になる。

独立分詞構文
