bitterly regretting that〜 →　bitterly（副詞）がついているのでわかりにくいですが、I を主語とする分詞構文です。「そして〜」

she would now be compelled to endure→　she の前の関係代名詞（which か that）が省略されています。先行詞（the shame and grief）を she〜 が後ろから修飾しています。
