課題文の和訳

あちこちで木が枯れて倒れ、見苦しい隙間を残していた。そして前年の激しい嵐によって、１本の巨大な幹が地面に倒れたままになっており、土地管理人と借家人が無関心なため、そこで朽ちていくままになっていた。

分詞構文（過去分詞）

今回の課題文には、過去分詞で始まる分詞構文が使われています→　left there to rot 〜

left が過去分詞なので、受動態の意味になります。主語（one huge trunk）とbe動詞を補うと→　one huge trunk was left there to rot→　「１本の巨大な幹がそこで朽ちていくままになっていた」

この場合の分詞構文の意味は、前の語句に対する情報の付加と考えられるので、「そして〜」という感じでつなげばいいと思います。
