読解のヒント

Combining the shrieks we had heard〜→　分詞構文です（「〜すると」）。When we combined〜で書き換えられます。

we could have no doubt〜→　「私たちには疑いようがなかった」→「疑いようがなかった」ことは２つあります。→　that the schooner〜と and that her crew〜

課題文の和訳

私たちに聞こえた悲鳴と、いま目撃した出来事を合わせて考えると、私たちの目の前にあるスクーナーは海賊船であり、その船員がブリッグに乗っていた人たちを殺した後、罪の痕跡をすべて消し去る（それが彼らの望みだったのだろう）ために船を沈没させたことは疑いようがなかった。

後置修飾

今回の課題文には、後ろから名詞（代名詞）に説明を加える「後置修飾」が４つあります。

★１〜３は、we の前の関係代名詞（目的格）が省略されています。
