スラッシュリーディング＋リスニング課題文

課題文の和訳

それぞれの波は、海岸や船の甲板から見るときの大きくて滑らかで光沢のある山のようなものではなく、まったく陸の丘陵地帯そのもののようで、峰や、なだらかな場所、谷がたくさんあるのだと、私は気づいた。

修飾語句を整理する

今回の課題文は修飾語句が多いため、核（中心）となる主語＋述語の形が見えにくくなっています。こんなときは修飾語句をカッコでくくると、文章の核がはっきりします。

I found each wave（,instead of the big, smooth glossy mountain it looks from shore or from a vessel’s deck,）was（for all the world）like any range of hills（on dry land, full of peaks and smooth places and valleys）.→　カッコ部分の語句を削除すると→　I found each wave was like any range of hills.（それぞれの波は丘陵地帯そのもののようだと、私は気づいた）
