スラッシュリーディング＋リスニング課題文

英文を前から読んでいくために、語句のかたまりを作ります。こんな具合に課題文をスラッシュ（斜め線）で区切ります（スラッシュリーディング）。語句のかたまりを意識すると、リスニングで英語の意味をつかむのが楽になります。

語句のかたまりを前から訳していきます。

課題文の和訳

満月が上りはじめ、霧の上端から赤い光をのぞかせていたので、私たちはさらに出発を急いだ。なぜなら、私たちがまた外に出る前に、あたりは昼間のように明るくなり、私たちの出発が見張っている者の目にさらされるのが明らかだったからだ。

省略語句を補う

今回の課題文では、for it was plain, before we came forth again, that all would be as bright as day, and our departure exposed to the eyes of any watchers の部分が訳しにくくなっています。

まず、before we came forth again は挿入語句なので、カッコでくくってしまいます。→　for it was plain（,before we came forth again,）that all would be as bright as day, and our departure exposed to the eyes of any watchers→　カッコ内の語句を省くと→　for it was plain that all would be as bright as day, and our departure exposed to the eyes of any watchers

for it was plain =「なぜなら it が明らかだったからだ」→　it は形式主語で、that〜が意味上の主語です。

意味上の主語は２つあります。

　　　　all would be as bright as day
that ＜
　　　　our departure exposed to the eyes of any watchers

２つ目の our departure exposed to the eyes of any watchers は、departure と exposedの間に、１つ目にある would be を補って訳す必要があります。→　our departure（would be）exposed to the eyes of any watchers
